Mattie Leeds will work with you personally to custom design a portrait
of anyone you wish. Some of the commissions he’s done include
a couple embraced in a tango, a daughter and cat curled up together,
and a multi-generational portrait of a family and their ancestors.
Through photographs you select and the stories you tell, Mattie
incorporates features and fondly remembered characteristics of family,
friends, and events.

The mother’s ancestors are shown traveling from North Dakota
in a wagon. The father’s ancestors are shown traveling from
Europe in a boat. If you can dream it, Mattie can create it- an
ancestral or personalized vessel documenting anyone or anything
you wish- in a uniquely permanent way.
Mattie Leeds classical forms date back thousands
of years, while his painting is sublimely contemporary. Allegory
and humor characterize these heirloom vessels which joyfully express
the spirit of every person and event depicted. Each piece is wheel
thrown; then fired, glazed and fired again. Mattie uses brightly
colored glazes to achieve a three dimensional quality. Sizes range
from two feet to eight feet. The vessel shown here is five feet
tall.
